Storage & load out at BOW Terminal: 61 Transition Pieces

BOW Terminal Vlissingen was awarded the contract for the temporary storage of 61 transition pieces (TPs) for the Noirmoutier Offshore Wind Farm. This 496 MW project, scheduled for commissioning in 2025, will generate around 1,900 GWh per year, supplying clean electricity to nearly 800,000 people and surpassing the population needs of Vendée. Located off the coast of Vendée, the wind farm will feature 62 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines.

The transition pieces, manufactured by Smulders in Hoboken, Belgium, measure 29.5 metres in height and 6 metres in diameter, and weigh over 360 tonnes each. BOW Terminal is responsible for unloading, storing, and preparing the TPs for transport to France. The first TPs were unloaded in February 2024 and the project was successfully completed in September 2024.
